About Jump! ezine

Hello and a warm welcome this months new subscribers to Jump!

Spring is definitely in the air here in London city. The cheerful yellow daffodils are out and the beautifully delicate cherry blossoms are blossoming! The weather is very mild for this time of the year, with clear blue skies in the mornings and even some rays of sun – YAY!

I don’t know about you but there is definitely a sense of new energy for me this month – in line with the meaning of Easter – revival and renewed life! After some months in winter hibernation, dealing and healing, processing and planning of my time, energy, money and passion. It’s now time to start taking some action now that the engine is warmed up to start moving along in leaps and bounds. What with the end of the tax year I have been bringing my focus round this month to sorting out my finances and seeing where I am at in reality, and in the process also discovering about how to attract wealth and abundance at different levels.

The results of all this process and planning have been beneficial – I know where I am at currently with my budget (instead of a guestimate!), can now start on cashflow forecast - I can see what I need to do to earn my desired amount, where I can allocate how much to what. And you know what? It actually wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Now if I had done it sooner I would’ve saved myself a lot of needless worry and got more sleep over the past few months! But the exciting thing was not only did I discover I’m cash good (as opposed to feeling cash poor but it’s all relative), but time rich and feeling overall pretty damn wealthy in health and personal happiness.

So this month we’re looking at the concept of creating wealth and abundance in this months feature article and I’ll be sharing with you my experiences and tips around creating wealth and abundance for you and your life.

Until next month, be loving, be peace, be true, be you,

Sam Leongtave

Book: Rich Dad, Poor Dad – What the rich teach their kids that you can learn too by Robert Kiyosaki

rich_dad_poor_dadIt’s a small book (only 243 pages long!) and written with some useful interesting insights that make it an easy read. Kiyoaski educates through telling his story, his experiences of having 2 dads – one rich, one poor and what they taught him about money; he offers a few insights into the ebb and flow of money, tax laws (how the rich get around them), our learned (and often self-sabotaging fearful) attitudes about money and how to attain it.

I now clearly know what the difference is between an asset, a liability, earned income, passive income and portfolio income. This book isn’t about how to save or become the next Branson in making a lot of money, it’s more about changing your mindset in how you spend the money you have a little more wisely (on income generating assets), about how to change your relationship with money by understanding the two key emotions that play such a great role in our lives - fears and desires, how it works so that you can then make it work for you, instead of you working for money.

In other words it’s a good book in reminding you that if you put aside a little of your wages into something that will make you money – stocks, bonds any other income generating assets than you will start to make some money (with the principle of compound interest). It’s a little repetitive – but that’s not always a bad thing since repetition is the mother of skill after all, good in drumming it in. The tax laws are American so doesn’t apply to UK law but the principles nonetheless are useful.

I like this book because it advocates what I know to be true – working SMART not hard – using your noodle, changing the way you think about money, which in effect changes the way you look at things, and thus doing things differently, to master the power of money as opposed to you being a slave to it, working with what you have, using it to take you to where you want to be – in this case financially. It’s about raising your financial IQ. And, it has diagrams that are so much easier to read in explaining cashflow. Ooh we love diagrams!

There is another well-known book called “Think And Grow Rich” by Napolean Hill – I’ve been told this is what all the other self-help books sprung from – kind of like the original mother, and apparently the best. I’ve not read it yet so can’t recommend it to you as such but I’ve ordered it so if anyone else has read this let me know!

So you want to be wealthy?

What is wealth to you? What’s abundance? The most simplest explanation is this: opposite of scarcity. For some of you your immediate thought is that wealth is about being debt-free and having truckloads of money. That’s my immediate knee-jerk response. Let’s face it I doubt there are many people we know who would say no to being offered a never-ending supply of those pieces of paper or a bank balance that is in the 6 figure plus bracket!

But if you take the thought further, what is it you want to use the money for? Well, it will buy you those dazzling pair of diamond earrings, you can get that yacht, go on that exotic holiday more frequently, start your own successful business, get a cleaner to do all those mundane chores, not work for money….what all that says isn’t about wanting money. Nope.

It’s about wanting more of the following…(are you ready for this?!)

more TIME
more ENERGY
more FREEDOM and ok yes
more MONEY

I believe a truly joyful life of feeling wealthy includes an abundance of creativity, peak health, fulfilment, and peace of mind on all levels (emotional, mental, spiritual), an excitement about life, and of course, financial abundance as well.

Yes you want money to ease what gives you PAIN (no I’m afraid it doesn’t always work on mother-in-laws!) and to release and aid what gives you PLEASURE. How many times have you wailed in vain and despair to yourself (and to your mates!) or heard someone else wail “If only I had £100,0000 million billion trillion, I could…!”

I can be a huge worrier about finances (which in effect doesn’t help my stress levels at all), when I focus my thoughts negatively (i.e worry) on money, on my lack of, I found that I managed to go through money very quickly, I incur bank charges more than usual etc. but I’ve discovered though that when I DON”T worry about money, i.e I don’t focus on my lack, somehow it’s not a problem, somehow the money comes in. Now I’m certainly not advocating you live in blissful ignorance of your rapidly mounting debt that is verging on your house being repossessed or being blacklisted or any such thing, my point is

a) Worrying is like a rocking chair – goes back and forth, back and forth, staying in the same place and gets you nowhere!

b) The point I’m making in my worry or not worry was in my focus – where I put my focus. I firmly believe that what you put your focus on, consciously or subconsciously, is what you attract to you and your life.

So if having a wealthy and abundant life means more time, more energy, more freedom for your passions and joy, and more money – focus positively on that, not on your lack if it. So how can you take small doable steps to create healthy wealth and abundance? I’d like to share some tools I’ve tried and like that could work for you in feeling wealthy while nurturing your creativity…Here they come…;-)

Action Tips for Creating A Wealthy and Abundant Life

1. Count your blessings with the Gratitude List
This first tool could change the quality of your life beyond belief: it's what I call a daily gratitude list. Write down in my journal a list of five things that I can be grateful about that day, that’s great about my life – it’s easy to forget. Some days my list will be filled with amazing things, most days just simple joys (the sun was shining this morning in a clear blue sky – which in grey London can be abit of a rarity so I’m always particularly grateful for this.

Other days, when it’s been a bit rough, I might think that I don't have five things to be grateful for, so I'll write down my basics - my good health, my lovely partner, their health, my great friends, the roof over my head, and the comfortable bed that I'm in while I write my list, as well as the fact that the day's over.

The gratitude journal is not an option, it’s a must. Why? Because you simply will not be the same person two months from now after consciously giving thanks each day for the abundance that exists in your life. And you have set in motion an ancient spiritual law; the more you have and are grateful for, the more will be given you.

2. Write a clear effective statement that you believe in
Everyone intuitively realizes how much our thoughts and mind affect how successful, happy, wealthy we are. And how unsuccessful, unhappy, and lacking wealth we are. Very few people understand that 90% or more of EVERYTHING we do, think, say or feel is generated out of our conscious awareness - by our subconscious programming.

Maintain 2 strong beliefs – one in ourselves and one in the Universe/God/Buddha to provide all that we need and want. Have a strong belief in your ability to create abundance for yourself, and that the world is full of abundance. Don’t buy into fear that tells you otherwise (so ignore those “Yeah but” weeds!)

Write a clear and effective statement of what we would like in our lives and believe it! Write as if you are talking to yourself. Your subconscious mind works in the present only so the messages should be in the present tense. You should prompt your mind about things you do want to think about and NOT about things you do not want to think about.

Do not use negative statements (ie. I do NOT want to be in debt..) because these remind you of negative thoughts, and as such confusing your subconscious mind. Your subconscious works on providing what you ask for, what you put there. To have a negative in what you want isn’t clear enough a message and creates resistance and keeps you stuck. Write what you want instead in the positive.

If you don’t have a strong belief then what’s happening is that your subconscious knows that and until your conscious and subconscious thoughts are aligned, until you are congruent internally with your thoughts – you believe in your heart what you say and what’s in your head with your thinking it ain’t going to work! You may not at first and that’s understandable given what conditioned perceptions and self-sabotaging beliefs you may have around wealth. But without a positive belief you stand in your own way of creating for yourself your wealth and abundance.

3. Create a mental movie
This is where you put that great imagination of yours to good use. It’s about visualising. Visualisation is quite simple and something we do all the time. Simply create a mental picture of the end result of your statement. Visualising your desired affirmation is an extremely powerful way to change your subconscious programming for the better.

For example, if your statement is "I easily make £1,000 or more each week" then you simply create a mental picture of: depositing £1,000 into your bank account; holding 10 £100 notes in your hand; seeing a cheque of £1,000 made out to you, and imagine what you will do with all that time and energy you’ll have to follow your passions and joy. The list is endless and only limited by your imagination. So let your imagination go wild. Here's a chance to daydream like you did as a child.

Make your visualization into a mini "mental movie." Add as many senses as possible to the movie – what does it look like? Then add the sounds you hear in the movie. Then add the scents you smell in the movie. Then add the textures of the things you touch into the movie. Finally, add the emotions you feel into the movie. Feel the excitement, satisfaction, sense of well-being you are experiencing in your abundant life. This gives your subconscious mind a very clear picture of what you want to accomplish.

Visualisation is about making it as real for you in your minds eye. Be creative with what you can do to help you with that, let your imagination have fun!

4. Give it away
Give 1-10% of your income. This can be a tough one for some people, like why should I give a percentage of my hard earned cash away when I can hardly afford to live!? Why? Because it is a Universal law that says, "the more you give, the more you receive". Some call it karma or like the movie “Paying it forward” where the concept is that when you do great things for others in the certain expectation that your kind deeds will make an amazing difference to the world. And in some roundabout way, via maybe fantastical and unlikely routes, a kind deed done by someone around the world somewhere else, will find its way to you.

But again like statements, the true power lies in being consistent in your giving - don't give away 20% one time and then forget to give the next few times you receive money and expect to see results.

The easiest way to do is to give 1-10% whenever you receive money. I suggest starting with only 1% because it's easy to do and one will see amazing results even with that amount. Again, even if your dead broke and you find a dollar on the street, then immediately hand a penny to someone else or place a penny of that pound in the local newsagents donation can.

Even if you're broke and only receive money once in a blue moon, then whatever your parents give you or a passer-by drops in your cup give 1-10% of it away ASAP. If you can’t give away even 1% of money, give what you can – your time, your energy, your love – give it away freely. By doing this you are telling your brain that you have more than enough, and with that you start to move away from the scarcity mentality that keeps you poor, which in turn actually becomes self-fulfilling prophecy.

5. Get intelligent with your time and energy
How are you currently using your time? Where are you wasting it? For every minute you spend looking at every single when you hear that ping of that email coming in, add them all up – you’ll be surprised. Do they really need all reading and responding to right now? Set boundaries - turn off the ping sound, it’s a distraction. The world won’t collapse if you check your email only twice a day and deal only with the emergencies (the real ones like your sister’s in the emergency ward!).

That way you’ll actually get done what you set out to do on that list of yours and you’ll go home feeling achieved something rather than you have no time to do it all. Let me tell you something – time is a man-made concept, noone can give you more time but yourself. It’s not about managing your time to get more time – it’s about managing YOURSELF.

Try using this system – the 3 D’s – Delete it (the things that drain your time and energy), Delegate it (the things you hate doing or don’t do well so becomes another drain on time and energy – get support), Do it (the things you set out to do that you do well and enjoy!).

6. Be financially responsible
Financial abundance flows when you trust yourself enough to handle it. Act responsibly. By that I mean take responsible steps with your finances – pay your bills on time (saves incurring extra charges!), keep up to date with your book-keeping so you know where you’re at and don’t get caught out going over your overdraft limit (and incur unnecessary and painful bank charges for it or at least let the bank know you need to increase it). What do you need to do to handle your money that you keep putting off? Where can you increase income and decrease outgoings?

Search online for budget calculators that do it all for you, for free tips on debt-recovery, savings and so on. Get informed and financially intelligent – I started with “Rich Dad Poor Dad” – reviewed in the recommendations section. Look at your friends who do it well – learn from them.

7. Connect with your passion
Passion is an internal experience not an external event – it is about connecting with what you feel, about doing less and feeling more. Passion is in connecting your head with your heart.

Give yourself permission to explore your passions, like a treasure hunt. Make a passion map – a collage of all the things you are drawn to, that you like, that speaks to your soul. Rip out images in magazines that make you smile or you feel strongly about – our soul speaks in images. Include music, movies that you are drawn to. Put it all together in a collage and put it some place you see everyday where you’ll notice it. What’s the overall theme or message you see there? Go out and try it out, do what excites you!

Seriously, a little discipline with these will get you more time and energy to focus on making you realize how wealthy and abundant your life already is and is ready to receive more! Remember a high quality life of wealth and abundance has alot more to do with what you remove from your life than what you add to it. Once you’ve got a handle on that you’ll find your passion and joys in your abundant life flows in a lot easier because you’ve made the space and effort for it.

This is just the tip of the iceberg of what can be done to create more time, energy, money and passion. Do you want more? Are you are ready for more?

Sharing Soul Sentiments

I have been regular practicing yogi for 4 years and today was the first time I actually learnt what some of the Sanskrit phrases used in yoga actually mean. The Sanskrit word “asana” derives from the verbal root as, meaning "to sit" or "to be present," and, in the context of the Yoga tradition, means "to be established in a particular posture."

In prana, the root word "pra," meaning "to fill," is added to the root word, "an," ("to breathe" or "to live") creating the new meaning "the life that fills with the breath." So in essence in a Yogic point of view, pranayama - the science of breath -consist a series of exercises intended to bring more oxygen to the blood and to the brain, and to control prana or the vital life energy (in Chinese culture it is chi) in the body.

It struck me today that to summarise, yoga is about consciousness, elevating our awareness of “being”. When we are focused in these postures (asanas), and breathing (pranayama) we are being made aware of being in that present moment. When we relax in this state, we exercise control, in our discipline to remain in these asanas, while at the same time relaxing into it physically, mentally, spiritually – letting go.

Controlled yet relaxed – quite paradoxical it seems – but isn’t that the state of bliss we are all striving for? To be in control yet in total relaxation?

Just simply being and breathing – how wonderful...no desire for more time (cos in this state I feel I have all the time in the world), energy (ditto), freedom (ditto) or money (don't need it when in this state!) when you're simply being and breathing, uh huh, feeling pretty damn wealthy now ;-)
